Nasa principal Moses Wetangula’s bodyguard has been charged with creating disturbance and preventing a police officer from executing his duty.
This follows a scuffle at the Supreme Court entrance gate on Monday, between the Bungoma Senator’s guard and police officers who were manning the gate.
He was released on a personal bond of Sh20,000, after denying the charges before Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi.
Simon Lonyia is accused of pushing Central Police division OCPD Robinson Thuku at the entrance of the court on August 28, 2017.
Lonyia was arrested and spent the night in police cells. He was, a day later, sacked over the incident.
Bungoma senator Wetangula has asked the police to reinstate his bodyguard, or else he will go to court.
“We want to urge the Police Service Commission to take immediate steps and reinstate Simon Lonyia back to his job and if there is anything they have against him, to give him an opportunity to be heard, take him through due process and pass him a verdict that can stand a test if he chooses to go to court to defend his rights,” said Wetangula, as quoted by The Nation.
