Westlands Member of Parliament Tim Wanyonyi has been the latest leader to weigh-in on the heated referendum debate, backing the proposed constitutional changes.
Speaking on Radio Citizen on Thursday morning, the lawmaker contradicted his brother and opposition co-principal Moses Wetangula who has since opposed the push spearheaded by members of the bloc allied to the National Super Alliance (NASA) chief Raila Odinga.
Wanyonyi endorsed the bid to expand the executive, terming it as a good move that will also prevent post-presidential election court battles, apart from its primary bid to include all Kenyans in the nation's top leadership organ.
''Via the constitutional change, we will be able to satisfy all Kenyans after each poll with no one feeling excluded despite losing. This will, as a result, prevent post-election anxiety and presidential petitions and in turn ensure that our economic growth is not disrupted,'' said the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) lawmaker.
Wetangula has since poked holes into the proposal, teaming up with fellow co-principal Musalia Mudavadi and a section of their allies in rubbishing it, terming it as a plot by power-hungry individuals to quench their political thirst.
The Bungoma Senator has further opposed Odinga's recent calls for the addition of a third government layer, calling for the implementation of the 10-year old current system.
''The agenda about the introduction of another level of government should not be entertained. We cannot again change the constitution when we have not even fully adopted the current one,'' said the Ford-Kenya party leader in Sabatia, Vihiga County two weeks ago.
