Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula has revealed that they have been friends with Wiper Democratic Movement Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka since 1985.
It all started with a Sh500 campaign donation.
Wetang’ula, who was speaking at a card-only, black-tie dinner at the Intercontinental Hotel to celebrate Musyoka's African Dignitary Man of the Year Award, said the former Vice President requested for a campaign donation which he did not hesitate to give.
“I first met him in 1985 when he wrote to me to ask for a donation for his by-election campaign. I donated Sh500, which was a lot of money then,” Wetang’ula revealed in dinner on Tuesday evening.
“When he won, he wrote to say thank you and said that he won the by-election because of the donation. We have been friends ever since," stated Wetangula.
Musyoka vied for the Kitui North Constituency parliamentary seat in 1983, but was defeated. However, two years later, in 1985 the seat was vacated and Musyoka won the subsequent by-elections. He became an MP at the age of 32.
Musyoka invited friends to celebrate the award he was feted by a humanitarian organisation, We Care for Humanity, for his humanitarian efforts through the Kalonzo Musyoka Foundation.
