Tana River Governor Hussein Dado has assured President Uhuru Kenyatta of victory in the county after August general election.
Dado, elected in 2013 through Wiper is defending his seat on a Jubilee Party ticket after falling out with the opposition.He recently said a team of professionals would be constituted to spearhead Jubilee campaigns in the Tana River and ensure the ruling party garners majority votes after the August 8 poll.Before his departure from opposition, Dado had been a close ally of Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka until he accused him of running the party single-highhandedly. He also claimed Kalonzo makes party decisions without consulting.Dado was among former opposition leaders who attended Uhuru’s address at the COMESA grounds outside Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi on Monday after Uhuru presented his nomination papers to IEBC chief Wafula Chebukati seeking for re-election.He recently said: “We have been in the opposition but the rewards we have received over all these years cannot be compared to what Jubilee has done in less than three years. I will move around the county to campaign for Jubilee and Uhuru Kenyatta.”Dado is among leaders from Coast region who were elected on opposition party tickets in 2013 but have since joined Jubilee. Others include Kwale Governor Salim mvurya, MPs Khatib Mwashetani (Lunga Lunga), Gideon Mungaro (Kilifi North), Masoud Mwahima (Likoni) and Kilifi women rep Zainab Chidzuga.Coast counties of Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Tana River and Taita Taveta overwhelmingly voted for Raila in the last election. However, Jubilee has of recent been dangling carrots in development projects to residents of the region in a bid to win votes.
