Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama has said he is happy with the steps his government has made in the last few years in the fight against corruption.

Speaking on Friday on the sidelines of the ongoing governors’ convention in Kwale, Nyagarama said the war on corruption can only be won by concerted efforts from all parties.

“We have done everything possible that is supposed to be done in order to curb down on corruption, and right now there are no many cases,” he said.

He lauded the governors meeting, saying it gives both the serving and the new governors the opportunity to interact and share on various issues affecting their counties.

“It is a learning process and very useful. It gives us the opportunity to learn and share on various matters,” he added.

The governor, who won his second term in the August election, further noted that they have been careful in their taxing of locals to ensure that they do not overtax the locals.

“We are doing our best, taxing the people who are businessmen, even if they are not many and it is not enough most of the time. The tax is in a way that you are taxed according to what you are earning,” added Nyagarama.

The governors will tomorrow handle integrity and administration during their third day in Kwale.
