Kiambu senatorial hopeful Karungo Thang’wa has dismissed claims that politicians eyeing seats as independent candidates in Mount Kenya have a hidden agenda.

Karungo says speculations that Mount Kenya independents want to frustrate President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election are out of order and malicious.The Ngewa MCA accuses rivals of spewing propaganda to gain political mileage against independent candidates.He said that independent candidates in Jubilee’s strongholds fully support Uhuru’s second term bid.“As independent candidates we are firmly behind UhuRuto’s re-election contrary to what is being said and speculated by some people,” he said as quoted by The Star.Karungo claimed that there is a plot to intimidate independent candidates and deny them any chance in the August 8th polls. “I don’t know why people are so afraid of independent candidates, we are just exercising our right as provided by the constitution,” he said.The Ngewa MCA asked Kenyans to base their vote on the  leaders  their ability to deliver on development.The senator hopeful believes that the time when politicians used parties to cling to power is long gone.Karungo exuded confidence in wining the Kiambu senate seat.“I am doing my homework well in terms of campaigning and I am sure to trounce senator Wamatangi with a landslide on August 8th,” he said.The Ngewa MCA lost the Jubilee Party ticket narrowly to incumbent Kimani Wamatangi.
