The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has presented a total of 53 investigation files, linking police officers to extra-judicial killings, to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Keriako Tobiko.
IPOA chairman Macharia Njeru said Tobiko had already approved that six of the files, be recommended for prosecution. This would ensure officers linked to the killings are arraigned in Court for legal action.
Macharia noted they investigated close to 300 cases, which all touch on extra-judicial killings, which is a great concern to the citizen's security and the Constitutional right to life.
"We have been investigating various cases, and over 300 cases that we have investigated, touch on extra-judicial killings. This rises concern over the manner in which police are handling various cases,'' Macharia said, Wednesday.
He raised concern over the manner in which police handled the case where guns were allegedly stolen from Booker police post in Mumias.
The IPOA chairman criticised the officers for beating up innocent residents, saying they displayed criminal acts, which should never be witnessed again.
He was speaking during the release of a report by Haki Africa, which reveals various cases of police brutality, Wednesday.
The report showed 22 deaths resulted by excessive force, 31 extra-judicial executions and 24 enforced disappearances.
