Omar said the cost of doing business in Mombasa is currently high, adding that he has an elaborate plan that will create and promote business in the coastal city.

“Mombasa is the most expensive county in terms of doing business and my first agenda as governor if elected, will be to reduce the taxes and tariffs charged on business people,” said Omar, as quoted by the Standard.

He hit out at Governor Hassan Joho’s government, claiming that it has not put in place policies to promote business and trade.

The gubernatorial aspirant said that despite the counting wrecking billions in terms of revenue collection, it has failed to create and promote a conducive business environment.

The Mombasa senator said he will push for creation of a special kitty to fund Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

“Governor Joho’s administration has failed to protect small businesses and my work as governor is well cut out if elected in August,” said Omar, who will be contesting for the seat on a Wiper party ticket.Photo caption: Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar at a past event.
