Maalim is a not a push over. The legislator is known for his sharp debating skills and firm stands when it comes to matters of national interest.

He commands respect and support of Somalis in Kenya, Somali and Djibout. His immense contribution towards the advancement of the North Eastern Region and abilities to solve matters affecting the common mwananchi makes him a force to reckon with.

Maalim will be banking on the support of residents who are tired with the leadership of President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy Willam Ruto to rise to power during the forthcoming general polls.

The outspoken leader has assured residents of Garissa town that he will correct the mistakes made by Duale if elected. As much as Duale enjoys cordial relationship with the current government, beating Maalim will not be a walk at the park.

The former Deputy Speaker is known to take the bull by its horns.  On the other hand, Duale fears no leaders from the opposition including Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) Leader Raila Amolo Odinga.

The fight for leadership between the duo make the Garissa Township race one of the contests to watch.
