Winning any political seat as an independent candidate in Nyanza is not a walk in the park.
Several leaders allied to Cord leader Raila Amolo Odinga have opted to contest as independent candidates following the shambolic Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) primaries in counties.
As analysts continue to express different opinions over contesting as an Independent candidate in Raila’s backyard, former powerful Kanu-era cabinet minister Dalmas Otieno, MP Jakoyo Midiwo, the National Assembly deputy minority leader and Mr Odinga’s first cousin and Former Finance Assistant Minister Oburu Oginga, also Mr Odinga’s elder brother have affirmed that they will win if they contest on their own when that time comes.
Political Analyst also Moi University don Javas Bigambo has termed the efforts of the leaders as kicks of dying horses, adding that they are in for a rude shock during the forthcoming general polls.
“It won’t be easy for independent candidates to carry the day in Nyanza, may be in Western,” Mr Bigambo said, as quoted by Nation.
The analyst also argues that the electorate will be excited by Raila’s candidature in the upcoming polls hence they are likely to back ODM candidates as opposed to independent aspirants as well as those contesting on different parties.
