[Photo: NMG]By Chief Justice David Maraga participating in the just concluded October 26 presidential poll, he gave the exercise the much-needed credibility and legitimacy.Political analyst and Lawyer Ambrose Wenda has also said that this was a big blow to the so-called National Resistance Movement which had called on all Kenyans to boycott the poll it terms as a 'sham'."It really doesn't matter who CJ Maraga voted for. But the fact that he came out to participate in an exercise that the opposition decided to boycott, sends a very strong signal," Wenda told K24 TV on Thursday evening. He added: "Maraga was basically telling NASA now NRM, that I ordered for an election to be held within 60 days and here I am participating because it is a legitimate exercise and the right thing to do."Wenda noted that the opposition will have an uphill task at the Supreme Court should they decide to challenge a second re-election victory by President Uhuru Kenyatta. He said that NRM cannot 'sabotage' the election in some areas 'and then you play the victim when you're actually the villain'. Maraga's participation, Wenda further noted, had also played a big role in restoring trust and confidence in IEBC among Kenyans after his court had accused it of doing 'illegalities and irregularities'.
