Coalition for reforms and democracy, Cord leaders Raila Odinga, Moses Wetang'ula and Kalonzo Musyoka have, for the past three weeks, staged nationwide demonstrations against independent electoral and boundary commission, IEBC.
These protests, which were meant to be peaceful, have turned violent with excessive use of force, teargas and even live bullets by police being reported.
We have also heard reports of Cord supporters taking advantage of the protests to steal and loot from the public.
Cord leaders should learn from Mahatma Gandhi and tell their supporters not to steal or harass the public.
That way, the police will have no reason to use excess force to disperse the crowd.
Mahatma Gandhi led the Indian independence movement (Indian national congress).
He organized and led non-violence demonstrations against the British rule. Gandhi mobilized peasants, farmersand labourers to protest without violence or even reciprocating police brutality.
Gandhi even threatened to fast to death before being killed by live bullets in 1948.
