Kenya's first Vice President Jaramogi Oginga Odinga left no will on how his wealth was to be subdivided among his family when he died in 1994.
However, Jaramogi's children did not taint the family image by fighting over his property with the 1996 inheritance sharing process going down smoothly.
His fist born son, Oburu Odinga, whom he sired with his first wife Mary Ajuma who died in 1984 received 4 percent of his wealth, with a similar portion going to opposition's National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga whom he also bore with Ajuma.
The property included a 140-acre piece of land in North Sakwa, which Jaramogi bought in 1973 and other pieces of land and an undisclosed amount of money held in banks and shares in terms of percentages.
Ironically, the biggest beneficiaries were the little known youngest sons of Jaramogi, Wilson Ating'a and Albert Adur and their sisters (Corazon Aquino and Emily Anyango), who got 11 percent of the estate each, despite living their lives behind the scenes.
According to a Standard publication dated Wednesday, April 19, 2017, Oginga's youngest wives Susan Agik Odinga and Betty Rosa Oginga also received 4 percent of the property.
