Last week's political reconciliation between Garissa Township MP Aden Duale and former deputy speaker Farah Maalim could work against Wiper Party deputy leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s 2022 bid.
According to political analyst Peter Ngure, Maalim support for Kalonzo now hangs in the balance following his new friendship with Duale.
Ngure argues that Maalim is likely to be swayed to support Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid.
He said that while the truce between the two leaders (Duale and Maalim) is welcomed and laudable, it will have a negative impact on Kalonzo’s bid.
“Maalim has been one of Kalonzo’s key allies and his new found political love with Duale is a blow to the former Vice President as he eyes the top seat in the 2022 general election,” he said on Wednesday.
Ngure says that chances of the Wiper party deputy leader ditching Kalonzo and working with Jubilee are now high.
Maalim and Duale met on Friday last week and agreed to bury their political differences.
The two leaders said that their reunion is for the sake of unity and reconciliation.Duale and Maalim who have not been seeing eye to eye promised to work together for the interest of Garissa people and Kenyans.
Maalim has since withdrawn an appeal he filed challenging the High court ruling that upheld Aden Duale’s re-election in last year’s general election.
