Debating the crisis that marred the country after the elections, the EU Parliament further noted that key institutions were intimidated and compromised before the polls.
They now want President Uhuru Kenyatta to move with speed and restore peace before the country could degenerate into civil war.
“The entire electoral process in Kenya has been extremely difficult, and created a lot of tension in the country, now it is time for the government and the opposition to engage in structured dialogue in reconciliation spirit. It is time for the Kenyan politicians to bring the people together and work towards an inclusive society for all Kenyans,” said one member.
Last year’s elections were marred by controversy, with Opposition leader Raila Odinga withdrawing from the repeat polls in October.
The EU further said that political parties too have a role to ensure they become more policy focused and move away from ethnic politics.
“The 2017 elections were still marked by some irregularities, political polarization, and intimidation. There is room to build on the progress already achieved, and there is a duty to do so for the people of Kenya,”
