Opposition Chief Raila Odinga had not planned to withdraw from the repeat presidential election this week, National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale has claimed.According to Duale, Raila was intending to pull out of the race to State House, two days to the poll slated for October 26.But the Election Laws (Amendment) Bill, which is seeking to change the manner in which the repeat presidential poll will be managed, Duale said, forced Raila to quit 'earlier' after the opposition failed to stop the changes. The bill was passed on Wednesday in the National Assembly as NASA MPs stayed away."Raila wanted to withdraw two days to the elections. These amendments have moved him from where he was hiding," the Garissa Township MP said.Among the proposed changes that were agreed upon and approved, require a presidential candidate to be declared the winner if the sole challenger withdraws from the race.On Tuesday, Raila and his running mate Kalonzo Musyoka said they pulled out of the race after the IEBC failed to address massive missteps that were identified by the Supreme Court in nullifying August 8 election. The said they will continue with mass protests to force the electoral reforms.
