Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya on Tuesday triggered laughter when he said people attending the fifth Devolution Conference in Kakamega town should feel free to sample the county's social life.
Oparanya who was speaking during the official opening of he conference said Kakamega County is rich socially and visitors in the town should be at liberty to sample the
"After these deliberations, go to your rooms, relax and feel free to walk out an anytime, even midnight," he said.
"Go out, do whatever you want to do in the streets, return to your rooms and do the same. There is enough security to take care of you."
The fifth Devolution Conference is hosted at Kakamega High School and thousands of visitors have already arrived for the event that was expected to be opened by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
"Kakamega has over two million people and we are very hospitable. Enjoy your stay here, socialize."
Among those present during the events opening were Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka, Chief Justice David Maraga, Council of Governors Chairman and vice chair Josephat Nanok and Ann Waiguru respectively.
The conference will run for five days until April 27. Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is expected to address delegates.
