It is unfortunate that politicians sugarcoat their inaugural speeches to appeal to the helpless masses, who will make unfounded rants with the hope that the professional cheater-politicians will live to their promises. It is a reality that the electorate ought to learn in order to avoid political disappointments.

Way back in the April 18, 2013, Garissa Governor Nathif Jama delivered a colourful inaugural speech to the first ever county assembly on its first opening session.

He clearly pointed out that the residents would no longer have to travel to the far-flung areas for adventure since the county would have a great deal of such services.

"We plan to make use of the Tana River as recreational hub for leisure activities such as canoeing, rafting and boat rides. We also plan to create animal parks for amusement purpose including the following; Garissa Zoo, Garissa crocodile park, Garissa snake park and Garissa tortoise park" he mentioned in his very first speech.

Four years down the line, the pledges have just remained paperwork with nothing tangible so far accomplished as far as local tourism is concerned.

It is on this note that Kenyans, specifically Garissa residents should never bank their trust on politicians because not even a single politician can reliably stick to his promise.

In the event that another politician ascends to Jama's current position, nothing much may also come out of it.
