As a veteran politician, serving in the longest ruling party; KANU under the former president Moi could have earned you enough experience to clinch the top seat, especially if you once had the privilege to serve in the retired president's cabinet.

However, the following politicians were not keen enough to learn from Moi’s ‘school’ of politics:

Moody Awori

Arthur Moody Awuori was elected as a Funyula lawmaker in Busia county back in 1983 under KANU ticket. He also served in Moi’s regime holding different offices as assistant minister.  Retired from politics after serving as the vice president of Kenya during president Kibaki’s regime.

Awori is currently living his life at his home in Nairobi and mostly spends his time in his office at Prof Nelson Awori Center signing cheques and writing.

Cyrus Jirongo

He once headed one of the biggest youths’ movements, Youth for KANU ’92 (YK 92), that was solely behind the retired president Moi. Jirongo later became the Rural-Urban Minister and got elected as Lugari legislator in 2007 general elections.

Of late, the husband of four wives has fruitlessly vied for presidency losing in two consecutive general elections garnering 0.07% of 2017 votes.

Joe Nyagah

Nyagah was one of the KANU members and held a ministerial post in the Moi’s government but later joined National Rainbow coalition. He was also a member of the ODM pentagon back in 2007 disputed election and served as a Minister for Cooperative Development during the grand coalition government.

Recently, he was serving as president Uhuru’s advisor but left to vie for the presidential seat in 2017 general elections where he lost.
