Belonging to the Luo community brings with it immense pride and being one of them, I can attest to this.
The community is known for its wide library of norms and culture and is among the few in the country which have remained rooted to the majority of its historical traits, despite the invasion of Western civilization.
This makes Luos get a special feeling of importance as they have their own way of life, and do not need to be entirely directed by outsiders, with the same being passed down from generation to generation to keep them alive.
It also brings along the international feeling, as several people from or linked to the community have achieved major global milestones.
One of these is former American President Barrack Obama, a son of Luo Nyanza, Oscar Award winner Lupita Nyong'o and English Premier League's (EPL) Liverpool Football Club forward Divock Origi, the first East African player to participate in the World Cup.
They have also made a name for themselves internally, dominating political, sports and educational sectors, and are actually ranked among the most learned people in the country, another reason to be proud.
This, however, remains my personal opinion and is not, in any way, aimed at downplaying the remaining communities which are equally great if not greater.
