New Nyeri governor Mutahi Kahiga has revealed that he knew the late Governor Wahome Gakuru's car was faulty.

According to Kahiga, his predecessor had also on several occasions said that the car would kill him one day.

"Gakuru had on many occasions complained that the car will kill him one day since it was faulty. He would even use his personal car during his regular travelling since he knew the Benz was faulty,” Kahiga revealed on Tuesday.

He said this on Monday during his swearing in ceremony and added that there were still more county vehicles that were not in proper form.

According to police reports, Wahome's accident occurred after a tyre of his Mercedes Benz burst leading to loss of control.

Kahiga said the county has allocated some Sh13 million to go towards buying a new car.

"The Sh13 million allocated is for the governor’s vehicle since the one that was being used by my predecessor was faulty. The one I’m now using has been borrowed from the Finance ministry. The governor needs to use a proper and safer car," Kahiga said.
