Wiper Party Leader Stephen Kalonzo has assured the Kamba community that Former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga, now NASA presidential candidate will back him in 2022.
However, the two leaders are not clear about the place of Amani National Congress (ANC) leader and Ford Kenya Leader Moses Wetangula.
Will Kalonzo lead Kenya for five years and pass to Mudavadi or Wetangula? Mudavadi is getting old, a fact we cannot ignore. The Luhya community will play an immense role in the 2022 presidential if it remains united like it seems at the moment following the naming of the spokesman.
It will be meaningless to leave Kalonzo to head the alliance if Mudavadi and Wetangula walk away from the alliance. It will be tougher for the Ukambani political kingpin to rise to power if the Luo community becomes reluctant to back him for presidency.
The dream of Kalonzo rising to presidency will be dented further if Raila loses in the forthcoming general elections. The alliance will not hold on for five more years.
A good number of the leaders will retrace their political steps before it is too late. Kalonzo has already faced resistance from leaders in Ukambani. The former vice president will find it hard dealing with his woes if the opposition loses.
