In a bid to commemorate the National Tree Planting Day, the multi-agency security team in Boni Forest comprising of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), the National Police Service (NPS), Kenya Forest Service (KFS) and Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) in conjunction with Lamu County administration, planted mangrove seedlings at Kitangani Beach near Mokowe Jetty.
A total of 22,000 trees have been planted for the past one week by the agencies involved in Boni Forest.
The move follows the launch of the National Tree Planting Day at Moi Forces Academy, Moi Air Base, Nairobi by the Commander-in-Chief President Uhuru Kenyatta alongside his Deputy William Ruto on May 12.
Boni Forest has been on the radar as a hideout for Al Qaeda linked Al Shabaab terror group which has been terrorizing residents along coastal Kenya and North Eastern region of the country.
