Citing the recent exchange between the leaders, kicked off by Kenyatta who recently threw a jibe at Ruto for his many trips across the nation, Koigi said that this could be the start of a fallout.

"Na hii kijana anaitwa Ruto kila weekend anatangatanga atakua anapitia machochoro...mkiona kitu inaenda kona kona mumwambie (update Ruto in his many loitering expeditions across the country every weekend)," the President said in Embakasi East area on Wednesday, remarks that according to Koigi, could be carrying a deeper meaning.

"Things are no longer well between the two hence the use of such rude words. It is not normal for allies and leaders of their magnitude to address each other this way and something could be very wrong somewhere," Koigi said.

Speaking in Embu on Saturday, an event also attended by the head of state, Ruto responded to the remarks, noting that his 'rounds' are developmental and successful so far.

"I am happy to report on my achievements as I roam at the grassroots as you have directed me," said Ruto in defence.

The two led a host of other leaders in attending the funeral ceremony of National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi's mother, the late Virginia Njoka.
