Nairobi city gangs have been known to be daring enough to rob people in the broad daylight.

Walking in gangs that are made up of 10 or more, they always converge when the time comes and sorround the victim leaving no room for escape.

If the gangs were to relocate to Eldoret, I swear they will be all forgotten.

Eldoret, arguably the fastest growing town in Kenya had witnessed the emergence of gangsters who terrorize pedestrians in the busy streets. Within a short time frame, they were all wiped out.

The success of the operation was attributed by the following reasons;

Residents unity

Unlike Nairobi city were everyone minds his/her business leaving the victim be robbed in the daylight, Eldoret residents are so united. Is it because most are from the local ethnic community? When a victim cries for help, the mob embarks on the thugs and deal with them thoroughly, even if they are armed. They believe that unity is strength, no matter.

Plainclothes police

In Eldoret, you won't notice the presence of security personnel until unlawful action occurs. They are always present within the people and dressed just like them.  When a victim is mugged, the plainclothes officers arrests the thug before setting even a foot. The security was beefed up after the Uasin Gishu County commissioner ordered for a security operation to deal with the criminal gangs.

County government's support

Uasin Gishu county Governor, Jackson Mandago does not entertain gangsters in the county. He is so tough when it comes to security matter. In the past, he ordered removal of street families and hawkers from the town after they were blame for insecurity.

"Hawkers and street families always roam in the town as they target pedestrians before they rob. The street children are responsible for petty crimes such as breaking into kiosks and Mpesa shops," said Mandago as quoted by Nation.

Eldoret town is manageable

Unlike Nairobi city which has millions of people, Eldoret is yet to hit a million mark. This makes the crackdown on gang hideouts easier. They have been known to be hiding in Langas and other slums. When the gang rob, they are always traced easily to their hideouts.
