The Tuesday night deportation of self-declared National Resistance Movement (NRM) leader Miguna Miguna is a big blow to NASA’s push for electoral reforms and justice, political analyst Peter Ngure has said.

Ngure argues that Miguna was among the engines behind self-declared president Raila Odinga’s oath and push for electoral reforms.

In an interview on Wednesday, Ngure said that NASA push for electoral reforms and justice is likely to slow down following Miguna's deportation.

“It is a blow to NASA and Raila Odinga because Miguna was one of their critical resource person in their push for electoral justice,” he said.

Ngure further observed that Miguna deportation is likely to cause fear among Raila’s allies and supporters moving forward.

The analyst said that NASA will have to change its tactic and approach if it is to continue with the reforms agenda.

“It is clear that the approach being used by the opposition is no longer going to work and they have to think otherwise or forget about any reforms,” he said.

Miguna was deported to Canada on Tuesday night after five days in police detention over his role in Raila Odinga’s  last week swearing in.

The Canadian based lawyer was deported aboard a KLM plane flying to Amsterdam minutes after 10 pm on Tuesday.

Earlier the self-declared NRM leader had been presented before a Kajiado law court but failed to plead to three counts relating to Raila’s illegal swearing in.

Miguna asked the Kajiado court to have him arraigned in Milimani where he was to appear before Judge Luka Kimaru.

The Canadian based lawyer was arrested on Friday last week at his Runda home, taken to Githunguri police station and later to Lari police station.

He remained in police cells despite a court order that had granted him Sh 50,000 cash bail.

Opposition leader Raila Odinga had condemned Miguna’s arrest accusing the Jubilee administration of persecuting his allies.

Raila on Tuesday asked the police to stop harassing is allies and instead, arrest him since he is the one who took oath as the people’s president.
