Kesses Member of Parliament Dr. Swarup Mishra has started a program meant to financially empower people living with disability in his constituency.
Mishra says the initiative will help the disabled start small businesses that will enable them to earn a living and be independent.
"I have commenced program meant to support people living with disabilities by empowering them financially. My aim is to ensure people living with disabilities don't become beggars but can earn something by doing something," said the first-term MP after handing over to Joel Kipchumba, a disabled youth shoe shinning equipment, Monday.
Dr. Mishra said that his administration will allocate some funds that will help the disadvantaged groups to start a business.
"This will empower them, level the playing field and unlock barriers that put them at a disadvantage," he added.
The MP reiterated that he wants to mainstream opportunities in government programmes and engage the disadvantaged in society prominently in building a progressive, cohesive society.
The legislator further warned parents that are still hiding children with disability and denying them the right to the education noting that every child has a right to education irrespective of their physical or mental challenges.
