The Kenya police force has spoken for the first time on what they knew from the late IEBC ICT director Chris Msando days before his tragic death.
Speaking in an interview on KTN on Tuesday morning, police spokesperson Charles Owino confirmed that it was true that the late Msando had reported to the force that his life was in danger.
"He reported to me, given that we come from the same area, he would feel that I was senior enough and he would report to me," said Owino.
"I personally referred him to the Central Police Station and he was referred to a CID officer and recorded statements with the CID," he added.
However, Owino said Msandobecame reluctant to follow up despite many attempts from the officers to seek his cooperation in the investigations.
"He became so busy. On two occasions, the CID called him because there are phone numbers that he was to send back to the CID and he did not go," he said.
"The CID called me to ask why Msando had not brought the numbers, and when I asked him(Msando) he told me the threats had subsided and also said he is busy but he will find time to go to the CID offices," he added.
Owino urged Kenyans to cooperate with security authorities by providing any information needed to aid in investigations when called upon to do so.
