A recent remark by President Uhuru Kenyatta while referring to his Deputy William Ruto continues to attract mixed reactions among politicians and Kenyans of different political affiliations.
The President made the remarks during an event in Nairobi’s Embakasi East area.
“Hii kijana anaitwa Ruto unajua kila wikendi anatangatanga kila pahali. Atakuwa anapitia hizi machochoro.Akiona kitu inaenda konakona mmwambie. Tuhakikishe kazi ya wananchi imefanyika (This young man called Ruto, you know he likes roaming everywhere every weekend. He will be passing through these routes. If he sees anything that’s not going well, tell him. We have to make sure citizen duties are fulfilled),” he said.
While responding to the utterances that have been translated differently, Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen said DP Ruto, commonly referred to as 'hustler' had been given a new job by the President to inspect government projects countrywide.
"Breaking news: Hustler ameambiwa atazunguka na kuzurura akiangalia projects ya Serikali..." tweeted the Senate majority leader.
The Deputy President also responded to the remark during the burial of National Assembly Speaker, Justin Muturi's mother as he laughed off President Uhuru's remarks saying “I am happy to report what I have been doing while loitering at the grassroots every weekend. I have something to report because it is what you have sent me to do."
"The road which you sent us to work on along Mathathari- Siakago-Ugweri, has been completed," he added.
