Following Governor Mike Sonko's sending of special divers to Lake Nakuru to help find bodies of the plane crash victims, Kenyans took to the social media to express their mixed reactions.
Some congratulated the governor for a job well done while others read mischief and weakness in the gesture.
"I like your effort, but am yet to see u achieve anything touchable. @ producing electricity making man made dams/river's, taking mama mboga out of the streets for good or industrialization of the big city.waiting," said James Johnston.
Ambachaukuta Punda Uyao said, "Hehehe show off better go to Mombasa, Lamu and Malindi to get support of really divers who never give up yours and government one took 4 days almost and nothing been done."
But others came to the defense of the governor, hailing him for doing work he was not being paid for.
Marcel David said: "Instead of some people ridiculing the governor for his work, which he does without pay, they should support and even help in making the team bigger."
Fillarine Cole said: Sonko you are one in a trillion. Good job. May God give strength so you may help the needy long live. God bless you so much and your family."
"So Mike Mbuvi aka Sonko have got rescue teams and professional divers while the government of Kenya have none!! This is mind boggling....Sonko for President...Congrats Mike Sonko," said another user John Young King.
Osman Ole Geds hailed the governor and asked the national government to take a lesson or two from him.
"We will soon rename the government of Kenya to the "government of Sonko"..where are the arms of government of this great nation...where are this people called navy,if they cant help the country in such time..lets resolve them," he said.
For Joe Victor, it was an embarrassment that the national government was slow in responding to disasters and that they had to rely on a personal initiative from a distant governor.
"Kenya we have always failed miserably when it comes to disaster response I mean a whole country and Sonko team is the one going to do the rescue where is the navy thank you Sonko team but we definitely need to do better on any emergency response," he said.
