This is the first time the county is hosting the celebrations which mark 53 years after Kenya got self riule.

The ceremony will be held at the Afraha stadium with President Uhuru Kenyatta expected to be in attendance.

Following this, some residents have called on the President to use the platform to address issues affecting the nation.

"The problem many Kenyans are facing is the high cost of living. We are paying a lot of taxes and this affects our monthly income. If a person is earns a salary of Sh10,000 per month, he cannot do much with the money. Every commodity in the market now has increased its price. We end up spending much and save nothing. The President should reduce the taxes’, said Cleophas Ongeri.

‘I think the President should address the issue of unemployment among the youths. If a majority of youths remain jobless, they will engage in risky behaviour such ase drugs and gangs leading to insecurity in the country,’ Anita Bakari said.

‘President should take some time and talk to us concerning the IEBC issue. He should be open to us and tell us what he is going to do to stop the recurrent demonstrations by the Cord party. If the issue is not resolved on time, it might lead to bigger problems in future,’ added Lillian Mungai.
