With about four months since the Supreme Court upheld President Uhuru Kenyatta’s landslide victory in the repeat elections, it is now time the country moves on from the period of politics to more meaningful things.

Kenyans who support NASA and Jubilee are tired of the empty rhetoric and sideshows that those who lost the elections are engaging. Recent polls by people from both sides of the aisle have called on the ODM leader to retire from politics, having lost at least four presidential elections.

The president has already set the ball rolling, with his Cabinet appointments being vetted by members of the National Assembly.

The time has come for the leaders from both coalitions to focus on what they were put in office to do — work for the people and bring development.

The head of state has urged all elected officials that they are getting late in starting to work for Kenyans.

“I ask every leader — right across Kenya — to remember that this is the time to get down to work,” he said.

“The elections are over. The people of Kenya have chosen their leaders. They now expect you to set aside distractions, games and sideshows and to focus your efforts on building our nation,” he added.

It is terribly worrying that Raila Odinga, the leader of the now-outlawed 'organised criminal group’ National Resistance Movement (NRM), is begging for fresh elections by August this year.

Odinga, who chickened out of the repeat presidential elections after a humiliating defeat in the August 8 polls by President Kenyatta, should not take Kenyans for granted with his unending political games. He needs to stop his distractions and leave the government that the people elected to deliver on its mandate.

As political scientific Mutahi Ngunyi says, Raila’s politics is like a rocking chair: keeping supporters busy but taking them nowhere. Kenyans need better healthcare, jobs, roads, security and other key services, which President Kenyatta is keen on delivering during his second term with his 'Big 4 Agenda’.

It is irresponsible, as Deputy President William Ruto said last week, for the NASA leaders to continue cheating supporters that elections will be held anytime soon. The next presidential election will happen in August 2022.
