It now appears that the refugees have no other option than going back to their countries after President Uhuru Kenyatta announced in Garissa that the repatriation process must take place by November this year.
This is despite the UN intervention urging Kenya to reconsider their decision citing that the action will put many lives in danger if the Dadaab and Kakuma refugees camps are closed but Kenya feels they have been kind enough to host the refugees but what they get in return is poaching activities and increased insecurity.
While these camps have become dens of poachers and terrorist activities, there are still innocent souls in there who dread going back to their war-torn countries like Somalia.
There are children who know not what terrorism is. It is unfair to take these children to such countries knowing very well what awaits them there is nothing like peace.
If our very own IDPs still live in fear of going back to where they lived before the post-election violence yet Kenya has not had any other war since then, how about these refugees whose countries are still in political wars? Some may already be getting stressed up just by the imagination of going back to where they fled from in search of peace.
As much as Kenya has played a very noble role of hosting these refugees and nothing good is coming from it, it is also good to think about the thousands of people who are not poachers nor involved in terrorism activities but are just ordinary peace loving refugees. If some of them are bad, why should all of them bear the consequences of the few?
Should we really be tired of doing well to others? There must be a way out of dealing with the few who get involved in illegal acts apart from closing down the entire refugee camps. A better solution should be sought which will not endanger the lives of many, among them being children.
