When Hazel Katana took a big plunge into politics in 2013, all seemed to be going according to her plans as she easily won a seat in her first attempt in the murky world of politics. After all, she had teamed up with the then Kisauni MP Hassan Joho, a rising star in Mombasa politics.She would later become Mombasa deputy Governor after the duo romped to an emphatic win.However, two years down the line, the relationship between the two deteriorated with Katana accusing the county boss of undermining her.As the relationship between the duo became even more frosty, Katana bolted out of ODM, a move that may have far reaching implications in her political career.When President Uhuru's party came knocking, the former Nation Media Group employee had an easy decision to make as she swiftly joined the Jubilee bandwagon that is making inroads in the region that is considered an opposition stronghold.Having set her eyes on the Mombasa Senate seat, Katana went into the party nominations confident of trouncing her rivals for the party ticket. However, she lost the nominations to Abdulsalam Kassim, a win she contested by appealing to the part's tribunalWith her options becoming limited, Katana hopes that the party's disputes tribunal rules in her favour lest she disappears into political oblivion.
