Wiper Party Deputy Secretary General Peter Mathuki has said Kalonzo Musyoka’s name will be on the presidential ballot in 2022 whether National Super Alliance (NASA) crumbles or not.
Mathuki argues that Kalonzo’s 2022 bid is a done deal and he will contest for the top seat whether on NASA, Wiper or any other party ticket.
The Wiper deputy Secretary General further states that NASA leader Raila Odinga’s meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday last week does not interfere with Kalonzo’s 2022 plans.
“Let it be clear that Kalonzo will be on the ballot in 2022 whether he is supported by NASA leader Raila Odinga or not,” the former East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) member told journalists in Machakos on Monday.
Mathuki said as Kamba politicians, they will rally to ensure Kalonzo wins the presidential seat in 2022.
He said the Friday's meeting between Uhuru and Raila was normal and that as leaders they will continue with their plans for Kalonzo’s 2022 bid.
Kalonzo signed a Memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Raila in 2017 under the NASA coalition that was to see him fly the coalition presidential ticket in 2022.
However, Raila’s meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta last Friday has twisted matters with analysts arguing that NASA is ‘dead’.
Political analysts further observe that Raila will not support Kalonzo in 2022 because he himself could contest in the election on his ODM party.
Wiper Party will on Friday convene a national delegates meeting to discuss Kalonzo’s 2022 presidential bid.
According to the Party national Organizing Secretary Robert Mbui, the meeting in Komarock, Nairobi will also decide on the party’s future in NASA coalition.
A section of Kamba politicians are putting pressure on Kalonzo to ditch the NASA coalition and focus on marketing his 2022 bid.
