Kenyan Striker Michael Olunga has completed his loan stint at Spanish club Girona and will now have to decide whether to continue playing for parent club Guizhou Hengfeng of the Chinese Super League.
He was involved in the final six minutes of Saturday's 2-1 win over Europa League contenders Las Palmas.
The former Gor Mahia man was part of the action after being thrown into the mix in the 84th minute of their thrilling 2-1 success over Las Palmas.
The 23-year-old Kenyan sensation has been in scintillating form for the Catalan club and it now remains to be seen what the Spanish Mid-table club does having been served well by Olunga.
He replaced the day’s man of the match and former Boro superstar Christian Stuani who notched a brace to hand them the win.
Moving forward, regular football will be a necessity for the pacy Kenyan and should the Spanish club decide against letting him go, he will need to up his game in the wake of the competition left, right and center from the rich talent available at Estadio de Gran Canaria.
Olunga expressed his desire to stay on at the Catalonia club.
“I would like to stay here. Girona is a great club that plays in the best league in the world. I would wish for an agreement to remain here. But I think it is too soon to think in the medium term. In June we will analyze the possibilities,” he said.
He is heading towards the peak of his career and this is the time he should be flourishing and regular football is what will help him do just that.
Having already had a successful stint in Sweden, he moved to China in a reported Sh400 million deal before finding his way to Spain.
He should find a good top club in Europe if at all Girona opt against retaining his services for next season.
If that happens then we shall probably be seeing him take to the pitch against the likes of English giants Chelsea and Arsenal as well as the likes of Torino and Lazio of Italy.
