Threats to democracy, perpetual election fraud and violation of the rule of law by government dominated Raila Odinga’s address to various Congress sub committees.
With an election standoff in the country, Odinga is seeking a strong backing from the West in his quest to have a transparent and credible election.
“We held a candid and productive discussion on Kenyan political situation with emphasis on threats to democracy, constitutionalism and the rule of law,” he wrote in his Facebook page.
While President Uhuru Kenyatta is focused on a Presidential petition challenging his victory, Odinga has since reverted to street protests and boycotting of products.
Having withdrawn from the repeat poll, Odinga maintains that the country must go for a free election in 90 days’ time.
“The role of credible elections plays an important role on stability of a nation. Justice must be done for our people through the conduction of a free and fair election,” he told International Republican Institute.
Among those he met were Delaware senator Chris Coons and IRC’s President Daniel Twinning, both who play a crucial role in promotion of good governance.
