Presidential hopeful Mong’are Okong’o would introduce free university education should he beat his rivals in August.

The Nyamira senator declared his intentions to run for presidency last year, saying that he is the ‘best’ solution to the problems facing the country.

And on Friday, Mong’are, who is yet to name his preferred party, said he will give education first priority should he be elected.

“Education should be the pillar in our system and if elected, I will be keen to ensure that university students do not pay school fees,” he said.

“Kenya has a lot of resources only that corruption has drained them. Our children must get access to free education,” added Okong’o, who recently called for legalization of Bhang business in the country.

Also, the controversial senator pledged to scrap parliament if elected, arguing that MPs are paid for doing ‘nothing’ when he toured Kuria recently.

Should he get to the ballot, he would be the third Kisii after Simon Nyachae (2002) and iconic George Anyona (1997).
