Moiben Member of Parliament Silas Tiren has insisted that he was validly elected as the chairman of the National Parliament Agriculture Committee. Tiren who is among four MP's the Jubilee party is seeking to remove from various committees has further questioned the powers of the leader of majority Adan Duale and majority whip Ben Washiali to remove them from the committees. Speaking in Eldoret on Friday, Tiren said he did nothing wrong to warrant discipline from his party. “Standing order 178 states clearly that any member of a committee has a right to vie for the chair or vice chair post. I asked for that position and members saw me fit to be their leader were those MP's insane to support me?” posed the MP who has been a vocal defender of farmers rights. Tiren was elected Agriculture committee chairman, defeating Adan Ali of Mandera East who was said to be Jubilee’s preferred candidate. Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter elected chairman of the Labour and Social Welfare committee, defeating Bura MP Ali Wario, who was the choice of the ruling party while Marakwet East MP Bowen Kangogo defeated Jubilee’s choice of Sofia Abdi (Ijara) for the Environment and Natural Resources committee. The MPs have already challenged the decision to remove them from the said positions because of allegedly defying Jubilee party’s leadership with the High Court issuing temporary orders stopping their removal from the committees.
