Opposition chief Raila Odinga landed at the Lakeside city of Kisumu for the first time on Friday after meeting President Uhuru Kenyatta last week.
Raila who was on his way to Kisii for a burial ceremony arrived in Kisumu to a rousing welcome as residents lined up the street to receive the man who recently risked being arrested and charged for treason when he took oath as the people's president at Nairobi's Uhuru Park.
"I wish to thank the people of Kisumu County for a very warm welcome and strongly endorsing the national reconciliation process that we are undertaking for the sake of our beloved nation. Thank you very much," the former Prime Minister said.
Kisumu is Raila's political bedrock and the county has always voted for the former Prime Minister in all elections he vied for the presidency.
In Kondele, he told residents to work towards developing the country after a long electioneering period that slowed down the economy.
Raila met Uhuru at the Head of State's Harambee House office on Friday last week, a meeting political pundits say was long overdue.
The meeting, however, has caused a sharp rift within the NASA coalition threatening to break the country's largest opposition coalition.
Raila and Uhuru are expected to embark on a countrywide tour and Kisumu is among the counties they will visit.
