An MP close to former prime minister Raila Odinga has denied claims that he is being groomed to take over s Coast political kingpin when 2022 comes.
Abdulswamad Nassir (Mvita, ODM) said during an interview with KTN News that his vision is to see a united Coast region as the country sprints towards another general election.
"No, I can tell you one thing that come 2022, the Coast will be able to produce a presidential candidate in the Orange Democratic Movement and so far Ali Hassan Joho has expressed his interest and desires," he said adding that voters from the region will rally behind the former Kisauni MP and support his bid to take over as Kenya's fifth president.
"We will democratically battle it out among ourselves in ODM. So whoever wins in that particular nomination will be able to traverse the whole country and we will be able to accompany that candidate throughout the country to sell our manifesto and views."
Nassir was one of the two opposition leaders who accompanied opposition chief Raila Odinga to Kabarak on Thursday as the former Langata MP paid a courtesy call to former President Daniel Moi after his return from hospital.
Nassir is the son to former powerful Cabinet Minister during Moi's regime Sharriff Nassir.
