While Deputy President William Ruto has every right to defend himself, his wealth and background, there is no need for him to keep on reminding Kenyans he is not corrupt.

They say a guilty conscience needs no accuser.

If Ruto's conscience is clean, he needs not convince anyone of his innocence because he will always be at peace with himself. That is what is important.

Political activist Jonathan Mweke, speaking to Citizen TV on Monday said that Ruto ends up tainting his name, even more, every time he rises up to defend himself against corruption allegations.

"He creates fodder for the media and the public to even question more about his vast wealth amassed over a short period of time. I think he should not defend himself," said Mweke.

Ruto has incessantly been defending his wealth every time he appears on media for an interview.

“I perfectly understand that there are people who believe that the only way to get anywhere is to take shortcuts. I have got here by sheer hard work,” Ruto told the Star during an interview.

He added: "I understand why some people have a problem with a son of a peasant getting this far because it normally does not happen. But they should wake up to a new reality that this is a Kenya in which every child, irrespective of their background or where they come from that it does not matter the status of their parents, whether poor or not, we must all have an equal chance."

These are carefully chosen words by the DP. Unfortunately, they are coming from his mouth and will convince very few if any.

They should be coming from elsewhere.

When you blow your own trumpet and purport to be the best, very few will be convinced. Ruto ought to have somebody speak on his behalf on controversial issues affecting him.
