Jubilee’s Mombasa County point man Suleiman Shahbal has outlined what he plans to do for the people of Mombasa in the first 100 days in case he becomes governor.

Shahbal who campaigned in Miritini, Jomvu and Changamwe on Monday said his first priority would be to solve the recurrent water problem that has hung on Mombasa residents for long.He said the Mombasa County government’s levy for establishing water kiosks was high and his government would lower the cost to enable construction of more water kiosks.“I promise that within the first 100 days if we take over, we will address water problems in Miritini and Jomvu at large. No longer will our mothers and young sisters queue with 20 litre jericans at water kiosks, waiting to fetch water which they are not even sure will be in supply. We can’t be a city without clean drinking water. This will end on August 8,” he said as he met groups of women on his campaign trail.“We will set up water kiosks within a radius of 50 meters. We will also reduce the licensing fees for water kiosks from the current Sh10,000,” he added.Shahbal a businessman with interest in banking and real estate sectors also said his government will focus at empowering women and youth by availing funds for running business.“I believe that any women and youth empowerment program must address the key issues of availability of capital and opportunities, and that is why my administration will help women groups register companies, bid for government tenders and access funds,” he added. He said women and youth constitute majority of the population and play an instrumental role in the country’s development and thus cannot be wished away.
