Mombasa gubernatorial hopeful Suleiman Shahbal has assured Mombasa residents his administration will not let them down if elected.

The Jubilee Party candidate says Mombasa is choking in garbage and will thus spend his first 100 days in office in cleaning the port city as he embarks on transforming the tourism industry.“Our beautiful city has been chocking in garbage. What used to be a model tourist city has turned into an eye sore for residents and visitors who have been forced to keep up with the horrific sites of mountains of garbage and foul smell,” said Shahbal.“The city is literally a dumpsite. This city has become a model of a failed solid waste management policy. The situation will, however, change and my promise to you is that I will end this problem within 100 days once you elect me to office,” he added. He said a clean environment is paramount for all Mombasa residents.“That is why we must remain responsible by maintaining our environment,” he said.On Tuesday Governor Hassan Joho denied accusations leveled against his administration that the county government had failed in making Mombasa garbage free.He said he was committed to cleaning Mombasa and transforming tourism, an industry that supports the economy of the county.
