Royal Media Services Chairman SK Macharia has sued the government following the media shutdown initiated on Tuesday.
The shut down affected Citizen Tv and Citizen Radio.
Macharia wants the government to pay compensation and get a court order barring interference with the firm's broadcast rights.
Other afected TV stations are NTV and KTN News.
The media outlets were shut down after failing to comply with an order of not covering the controversial swearing-in of NASA leader Raila Odinga.
During a press briefing on Wednesday, Interior CS Fred Matiang'i said that the TV stations would remain so until the completion of investigations into the swearing-in.
Matiang'i further noted that coverage by the media would have led to incitement and a 'massacre of catastrophicproportions' was going to happen.
