Last Thursday, Nairobi experienced a rare occurance after bees attacked street users in the heart of the CBD.

This raised concerns over how prepared people are in case of an attack by bees.

The following is what you should do next time the stinging insects decide to pay you a visit.

1. Run

Try to flee the place. Standing at one point increases the number of bees attacking you by every passing minute.

2. Use petrol

Bees are turned away by the mere smell of petrol or parafin. Smear the liquid around yourself and spray some in the air. You will not see bees again.

3. Cover up

If you have any extra clothing like a jumper or jacket, pull them to cover your head. Do not cover your bare body with your hands since they will also get the sting.

4. Seek shelter

When under an attack, identify the nearest house and and run to it. If there is no house, you can also shelter in a car or any retail shop. This helps reduce the number of bees after you. If you can turn off the lights in the car or house, the better.

5. Do not directly fight back

When bees are hovering over you, don't try to crush any of them. When you harm a bee, it produces a certain smell that attracts more bees to come to its help. This means that you will be increasing the number of bees attacking you.
