A section of residents in Uasin Gishu County have opened up on some of the issues they want to be addressed during the fifth devolution conference that kicks off, Monday at the Kakamega High school in Kakamega county.
Speaking to Hivisasa.com on Monday, the residents toasted Governor Jackson Mandago for the developments they have realized in the Education and Health sectors as well as improvement of infrastructure especially on the creation footpaths and street lighting.
However, they said that there is more to improve and here are some of the issues they want to be addressed in the five-day annual event;
Nicholas Kiptanui, a farmer and a resident of Turbo constituency expressed concern that he has not been paid for maize supplied to the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) four months ago and want governors to address the matter.
“The County Government should note that maize farmers are unhappy because the Treasury has not released funds to the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) to enable the parastatal pay our dues," said Kiptanui.
NCPB owe farmers over Sh5 billion for maize supplied since last year. Each 90-kilogram bag of maize was being bought at Sh3,200.
Aron Ongeri, a resident of Kapsoya estate on his part said the devolution conference need to focus on how to tackle tribalism, nepotism, and cronyism that came with the devolved units of government.
“I am urging the participants in the devolution conference address tribalism in our counties. I have applied for a job more than 5 times but I have never been responded to," lamented Ongeri.
He claimed that counties were employing staff on the basis of where they come from and how connected they are with the top county officials.
