Despite most parts of the country experiencing low voter turnout in the October 26 fresh presidential poll, the turn out in Kirinyaga county was impressive. Uhuru garnered nearly 290, 000 votes in all the four constituencies in the county. In Gichugu sub-county, Kenyatta garnered 71,982 votes while Opposition leader Raila Odinga garnered 81 votes despite him withdrawing from the presidential race. In Mwea sub-county, Uhuru got 101,433 and Raila 14. In Kirinyaga Central sub-county, Uhuru got 64,127 votes as compared to Odinga's 115. The president obtained 55,834 votes in Ndia sub-county and Raila 93. Kirinyaga is headed by Governor Anne Waiguru who was the former Devolution Cabinet Secretary.
