President Uhuru Kenyatta has maintained that October 26 repeat polls will still go on as planned by the IEBC despite calls to boycott the event by NASA leader Raila Odinga.
The strong stand by Jubilee and Uhuru means that there is an elaborate plan by the ruling coalition to ensure that the polls are held and they also have a backup plan for the same in case IEBC is disruption, The Star political desk has revealed.
According to the scribe, Uhuru plans to swiftly return the election amendment Bill to Parliament with a memorandum 'suggesting' that the chairman of the IEBC need no longer to be a lawyer, meaning any commissioner can declare the winner.
None of the commissioners is a lawyer, hence Chebukati is the only one capable of holding the office hence the move for an amendment.
"We are not leaving anything to chance, we want to ensure Kenyans go to the election as per Supreme Court ruling. If it means returning to Parliament before the election, that's what we'll do," a Jubilee strategist, requesting anonymity, said.
