The morning of Friday 30 July cast a dark cloud in Kenyan political scene after the fall of long serving son of the soil Godfrey Gitahi Kariuki commonly known as GG Kariuki.
The 78-year-old politician fell after long struggles with an illness.
Here is a complied list of at least five things Kenyans need to know about the oldest serving senator.
1. He wrote an autobiography detailing his political career titled 'illusion and power: Fifty years in Kenyan politics'
2. He became an MP at 23-years of age joining the first independence parliament.
3. Left secondary education in 1952 and joined the struggle for independence.
4. He was nicknamed by his senate colleagues Senator 001 because of his old age.
5. He lost in the Jubilee party nominations.
6. he graduated with a PhD in International Studies from UoN at 76 years of age.
By the time of his death, Kariuki was the senator for Laikipia county.
